Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife by Mary Roach is a book (311 pgs) that investigates the possibility of an afterlife and also attempts to find and define the soul, all while using a scientific approach, and reflects Mary's infamously humorous approach to her topics. The book covers: investigations of reincarnation, attempts to find the soul (by dissection, weighing, and other methods), spiritualism, even historical cases of lawsuits that established legal precedence for ghosts, among other topics. The book was published in 2005 and was named a Notable Book by the New York Times.
