Rev. Alan Taylor - “Resistance and Transformation”

No one provoked resistance and transformation so effectively as Theodore Parker, an abolitionist and transcendentalist Unitarian minister, who greatly influenced Abraham Lincoln, Senator Charles Sumner (one of the great unsung Unitarians), and Rev. Augustus Conant who founded our congregation. On this anniversary of Rev. Augustus Conant’s death during the Civil War, Rev. Alan Taylor will reflect on his legacy as a protege of Theodore Parker and the writer of our 1842 covenant who embodied it throughout his life.

Guest Speaker, Rev. Dr. Scot Giles - “What Rasputin Believed”

Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin, who was murdered by those who objected to his politics in 1916, is an interesting historical figure. A Spiritual Director and Hypnotist of great renown, he influenced the politics of his day profoundly, while at the same time scaring people because of his libertine lifestyle. Despite all the good and ill that he did, there can be no doubt that he was also a person with a deep spiritual practice who had some insights that can help us today. Rasputin will be the unlikely focus of Dr. Giles’s sermon in the wake of Valentine’s Day.
