Floor Us With Your Donation!
UU Society of Geneva
Dear Fellow UUSGer:
If you have been reading UUSG’s weekly/monthly communiques, you know that the Facilities Team and friends have been renewing the Common Room. This project was initiated to address one of our strategic goals of attracting new members. We wanted to make the space more comfortable for congregants and more welcoming to newcomers by updating the décor and technology; opening up floor space for less crowding; and providing some sound muffling -- all while keeping the area flexible and useable for a variety of purposes.
With Homecoming Sunday behind us, hopefully you’ve had a chance to see the new Common Room (if not, we’ve attached some “before” and “after” photos as well as a link to an in-progress video). We accomplished a great deal, all on a shoestring budget. Most importantly, all the labor was donated. We are so grateful to skilled carpenters Dave Hansen and Braden Rittenberry who installed the board-and-batten and other trim, and for professional painter Sean Hruby – they lead the charge by teaching and inspiring a crew of willing workers to get the job done. We kept some of the furniture and got some new furniture (some with donated funds). And Jeff Stibal worked to get the room “wired” for our technological future.
The last – and probably most visible feature – is the carpeting, which was expensive. And there was no budget for it. But we knew if we updated everything else, the old stained carpet would look even older. As we were wrestling with this dilemma, we were fortunate to have donors step-up and give us $10,500 towards the carpet/installation. That paid for most of the job, and it was an offer we couldn’t refuse. So new carpet squares were ordered and installed.
This is where you come in. We are looking to raise the additional $3,000 so the entire carpet project can be paid for. We chose carpet that will last for many years to come, so your donation is a gift that you and your fellow congregants will appreciate for a long time.
Give a lot. Give a little. Every dollar helps. We’d like to get this wrapped up by October 1st, so please indicate “CARPET” in the subject line on your check and mail or drop off as soon as possible. If you prefer to donate online please select “Carpet” from the drop-down menu when giving. If you have any questions about your donation, please reach out to our Congregational Administrator, Christine Imielski at office@uusg.org or 630-232-2350.
Note that donating to the carpet project does not replace the dollars you have already pledged to the operating budget of the church for the 2022-23 year.
Gratefully,
Nancy Christensen
Board President
