Friday Flick
UU Society of Geneva
On Friday, January 27, the Friday Flick will be Descendant, which tells stories of residents of Africatown, a community in Mobile Alabama. These people are descendants of people on the last slave ship known to arrive in America – long after the slave trade had been declared illegal. The film examines their attempt to reclaim their history while confronting issues of justice, the importance of knowing ones ancestry, and reparations.
An official selection of Sundance Film Festival, this film was picked up by the Obama’s Higher Ground Productions.
The film will be shown in the Common Room at 7PM.
