Social Justice: Lazarus House Needs

The next UUSG monthly commitment to provide lunch and dinner for Lazarus House is on Saturday, May 2. Given the COVID-19 virus restrictions we will not be able to use the onsite cooking volunteer team we used before. We need to adjust how we provide meals for their tenants, so we can continue our committed support.

We have been informed that they need bag lunches for 50 people. The lunch would be sack meals containing a drink, any type of sandwich (without condiments) and either fruit OR chips OR veggies. An optimal way of making this easier for the volunteers would be for 3 families to each prepare 17 sack meals. This needs to be delivered Friday evening, May 1.  If each family is willing to deliver their meals, that would be great. Any family with a preference to have someone else perform the delivery, we will make those arrangements. We want to be sure everyone is comfortable.

We were also asked to provide dinners cooked in volunteers’ homes serving 60 people. Thus, we need 5 families to each prepare a casserole serving 12 people along with a salad (without dressing) for 12 as well. Casseroles and salads should be prepared in foil containers (these are available for pick-up at Lazarus House if needed).

Reimbursement for the cost of preparing the meals is available, please retain your receipts and contact our Congregational Administrator at office@uusg.org for instructions.

Those who would like to volunteer for the preparation of the Lazarus House meals, please sign up at uusg.org/lazarus-house
