UUSG Hosts: Kids Take a Stand

UU Society of Geneva

UUSG is pleased to host Sarah Ruth Krohn and her charity lemonade stand to support immigrant children in detention centers during the national Kids Take a Stand weekend July 27th & July 28th.

About Sarah: Sarah Ruth Krohn is a nine year old soon-to-be 4th grader at Bell-Graham elementary in St Charles. She loves playing the cello in her school orchestra and enjoys tennis, swimming, and playing piano in her spare time. She also loves science, reading, Avengers movies and jumping on her trampoline.

Sarah's family moved to St. Charles last August and it was during this transitional period that Sarah first became aware of the children being held in immigration detention facilities. Having recently moved from the only home she’d ever known, she couldn’t imagine having to move somewhere without family, without knowing the language and without having anyone to take care of her.

It was then that this issue took root in her heart and she asked us to donate to causes to help the children. But she still didn’t have a direct role...a way to help. When we first learned about Kids Take a Stand it seemed like the perfect fit! It’s a way for her to have a direct impact about a cause that she cares deeply about.

About Kids Take a Stand: Take a stand for children in detention centers and for family reunification! On Saturday, July 27th and Sunday, July 28th, kids and families across the nation will host lemonade stands to raise awareness of the ongoing separation of migrant children from their families and the current plight of children in detention centers across the country. All proceeds from the lemonade stands will be donated to 2 incredible organizations: the Rio Grande Valley Rapid Response and KIND (Kids in Need of Defense). The mission of Rio Grande Valley Rapid Response is to welcome, orient, feed, clothe, and otherwise serve the immigrants and refugees being released en masse in the Rio Grande Valley. KIND has a robust national network of pro bono attorneys who have represented unaccompanied children in their search for safety, and provides legal services and social services for released migrant children. https://www.lawyermomsfoundation.org/kidstakeastand
